ATLANTA LEGACY MAKERS : TYING THE KNOT
A memorial to celebrate two Atlanta mayors Ivan Allen Jr. and Maynard Jackson.
Park / Memorial / Amphitheater / Sound Scape | Finalist Competition Entry
A proposal folding two sidewalks and neighborhoods together in a flexible piece of civil infrastructure to honor the legacies of Atlanta’s mayors Ivan Allen Jr. and Maynard Jackson. The looped elevated pathway generates pocket parks and an amphitheater to support celebration and gathering. An audio scape embedded in the benches houses a living-accessible-evolving-archive of stories, songs, and legacies of the beloved Atlanta community.
The park includes a soundscape — an evolving memorial audio piece. The experience operates in two modes: Elective/Intimate and Immersive. Like content at a museum or gallery, the work refreshes seasonally. The audio is housed and delivered by benches equipped with a QR code, a light physical interface, a remote-digital interface and a speaker.
